Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An opportunity is available for experienced Special Education Teachers to support elementary students in a full-time capacity from November 2025 through May 2026. This contract role is based in Sumter, SC, serving developmentally delayed and mildly mentally disabled students within structured classroom environments. Key Responsibilities: Provide specialized instruction for students with developmental delays and mild intellectual disabilities in elementary settings. Manage classroom behaviors effectively, implementing de-escalation techniques to maintain a positive learning environment. Collaborate regularly with general education teachers and special education program directors through professional learning communities and meetings. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs. Support a diversity of special education classes, including classes for students with developmental delays and moderate intellectual disabilities. Engage with paraprofessionals and team members to deliver consistent, high-quality education. Qualifications and Experience: Active South Carolina teaching certification with the multi-category endorsement in special education. Proven ability to handle and de-escalate challenging behavior in classroom settings. Experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and participating in PLCs. Background working with elementary-aged students, preferably grades 3-5. Familiarity with IEP development and compliance.
