Paralegal – Workers' Compensation Unit Department:

Office of the Attorney General – Civil Litigation and Employment Section, Workers’ Compensation Unit, Colorado Attorney General’s Office.

Location:

State of Colorado.

Work Arrangement:

Full‑time, primarily in‑office with post‑onboarding flexibility.

Job Summary Assist and support attorneys who defend workers’ compensation claims. Primary duties include opening claims, gathering and investigating information, drafting motions, pleadings, and discovery documents under attorney supervision, filing pleadings with the Division of Workers’ Compensation, courts, and other agencies, reviewing and organizing records, conducting preliminary research, preparing witnesses and exhibits for hearings, and staying current on applicable procedural rules and case law.

Responsibilities

Open and investigate new workers’ compensation claims.

Draft and file motions, pleadings, and discovery materials.

Review, organize, and summarize records and documents.

Conduct preliminary legal and factual research.

Assist attorneys in trial preparation and witness management.

Track procedural rules and case law changes to support unit improvements.

Maintain compliance with E‑Verify and background‑investigation requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Paralegal certificate from an ABA‑approved program or accredited institution.

One year of paralegal experience.

Residency in Colorado at the time of application.

Substitutions

Two years of paralegal experience, including legal research and document drafting.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional experience supporting workers’ compensation attorneys.

Proficiency in organizing electronic medical records.

Experience with ProLaw or a similar case‑management system.

Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits

Sign‑on bonus: $1,000 (eligible for new hires not previously in Colorado State Personnel System) – $500 at hire, $500 at 12‑month certification.
