Responsibilities
Examine building permit applications, including blueprints, specifications, surveys, product approvals, shop drawings, and other required documents for compliance with the Florida Building Code and related regulations.
Prepare written and electronic reports and issue notices of correction.
Meet with design professionals, contractors, and other stakeholders to discuss technical code issues during the plan review process.
Inspect buildings and other facilities to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
Respond to inquiries from homeowners, contractors, architects, engineers, and others regarding codes and review procedures.
Perform general administrative tasks such as attending meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, filing documents, and answering telephone calls.
Maintain records of customer service issues and resolutions, research problems and complaints, and enforce and explain relevant code sections.
Assume additional related duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
Licensed general contractor for a minimum of five (5) years.
State of Florida Plan Review License (PX) in building, or State of Florida Inspector License (BN) in building, or ICC residential and commercial Plans Examiner/Inspector certification.
Certifiable or already certified as a Building Plans Examiner by the Miami‑Dade County and/or Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals.
In‑depth knowledge of the Florida Building Code and other applicable construction regulations.
Ability to understand, interpret, and evaluate code requirements for residential and commercial projects.
Strong professional demeanor, technical knowledge, and teamwork skills.
