Overview
A well‑established, community‑centered energy leader is hiring an Operations Manager to join its team in Ryegate, VT. This role will oversee day‑to‑day operations at its biomass power plant while being groomed to step into Plant Manager responsibilities as part of a planned succession. The position blends hands‑on control room expertise with people leadership, safety ownership, and operational decision‑making.
You’ll lead shift personnel, ensure safe and compliant power generation, and serve as the bridge between field execution and executive priorities. They’re looking for a proven power plant operations leader who can run the control room, lead people with authority and calm, and take ownership of plant performance.
Operations Manager Responsibilities
Lead daily operations of a wood‑fueled biomass power plant
Supervise operations staff across shifts, including Control Room and Steam Plant Operators
Fully qualify to run the plant, including start‑ups and shutdowns in the control room
Review logs, performance data, and DCS readings to identify and resolve issues
Conduct safety walk‑downs and enforce strict safety and environmental standards
Coordinate fuel supply, inventory management, and ash handling logistics
Schedule and direct maintenance activities with O&M teams
Manage operational budgets, reporting, and compliance documentation
Troubleshoot equipment and process issues to maximize efficiency and uptime
Support hiring, training, and retention of operations personnel
Contribute to strategic planning and upcoming plant improvement projects
Operations Manager Requirements
3+ years of power plant control room operations experience
Solid‑fuel background strongly preferred
Demonstrated leadership experience over people, programs, or operations
Ability to step up from Senior CRO or Shift Supervisor roles
Working knowledge of DCS systems
Strong safety mindset with environmental compliance experience
Comfortable with on‑call responsibility and occasional callouts
