Schedule: Varies; classes mostly evenings and weekends.
Position Summary NOVA Workforce Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include face‑to‑face, remote, and online formats. The teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantees of continued employment.
Responsibilities
Provide hands‑on, guided, differentiated instruction to enrolled students.
Prepare course materials and lesson plans.
Conduct efficient and effective classroom management.
Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives, learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, assignments, deadlines, and evaluation criteria.
Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabi, assignments, and other materials and to communicate timely with students.
Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide engaging assignments that demonstrate real‑world applications.
Maintain records of enrollment, attendance, assessments, and grades; submit class rosters and grade sheets by department deadlines.
Maintain a hazard‑free environment and practice safety in lab(s) or classroom.
Adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
Assure regular class attendance, required records, and reports; teach prescribed courses as scheduled.
Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Qualifications
Working knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, code compliance, and local electrical regulations related to installation, grounding, and protection.
Ability to read, interpret, and explain electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and one‑line schematics.
Understanding of OSHA 10/30 safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements specific to electrical environments.
Skill in demonstrating electrical techniques safely, including wiring, conduit bending, and circuit assembly.
Ability to teach hands‑on technical content effectively to diverse learners.
Strong problem‑solving skills for identifying and correcting mechanical and electrical faults.
Skill in aligning instructional content with industry standards and certification requirements.
In‑depth familiarity with conductors, transformers, motors, panels, breakers, and control systems.
Ability to uphold institutional standards and positively represent NOVA Workforce in all instructional and industry settings.
Prior teaching or training experience in the subject field or demonstration of teaching potential.
Practical working experience in the subject field and related industries.
Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise for the course.
Familiarity with subject area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures.
Working knowledge of computer applications and ability to use computers for class presentation.
Experience teaching “boot camp” style training courses.
Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment; experience working with adult learners and students from diverse language backgrounds.
Additional Considerations Practical working experience in the subject field and related industries.
Logistics & Requirements
Part‑time teaching; no telework options.
No required travel.
No state vehicle operation.
No employee supervision.
