Local Veterans Employment Representative – Commerce – Workforce WV – Berkeley County.

Nature of Work WF260031 – Local Veterans Employment Representative – Berkeley County.

Exempt Position.

Special Requirement as required by Title 38, US Code: When vacancies occur, preference in appointment shall be accorded first to qualified service‑connected disabled veterans; if none, then to qualified eligible veterans; if none, then to qualified eligible persons.

This position is in the Special Programs unit, physically located in the Martinsburg local office.

Responsibilities include:

Conduct outreach to employers and employer groups such as business, industry, and other community‑based organizations as an advocate for the hiring of veterans.

Coordinate with other service providers to promote the advantages of hiring veterans to employers and employer groups.

Conduct outreach to employers in the area to assist veterans in gaining employment, including conducting seminars for employers and, in conjunction with employers, conducting job search workshops and establishing job search groups.

Facilitate employment, training, and placement services furnished to veterans in the State under the applicable State employment service delivery system.

Coordinate with unions, apprenticeship programs and other business organizations to promote employment and training programs for veterans.

Provide information to federal contractors of their responsibility to recruit and retain qualified veterans.

Promote credentialing and licensing opportunities for veterans.

Document services provided to employers/businesses in the applicable State employment service delivery system.

Complete National Veterans Training Institute prerequisite and job‑specific courses within 18 months of assignment (requires air travel).

Submit required reports to the manager as directed by leadership.

Attend and participate in local meetings, agency‑sponsored training or conferences as directed by leadership.

Plan and participate in job and career fairs as directed by leadership.

Attend weekly staff meetings; serve as a capacity builder to boost the effectiveness of AJC colleagues who assist veterans.

Mentor and assist in the training of new JVSG staff as needed.

Prepare travel requests and reimbursement forms timely.

Complete daily timesheets.

Other duties as directed to support program goals and expectations.

Please note, this is an Exempt position and is not covered under the merit system administered by the West Virginia Division of Personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.

Experience: Four years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid general work experience; two of which must have been in interviewing or performing responsible public contact work.

Substitution: Successful full‑time study in an accredited college or university, or resident business or vocational school training may be substituted through an established formula for the required experience.

Special Requirement as required by Title 38, US Code – same as above.

NOTE: The definition for “eligible person” means (A) the spouse of any person who died of a service‑connected disability. (B) the spouse of any member of the Armed Forces serving on active duty who, at the time of application, has been listed, pursuant to section 556 of title 37, for a total of more than ninety days in one or more of the following categories: missing in action, captured in line of duty by a hostile force, or forcibly detained or interned in line of duty by a foreign government or power; (C) the spouse of any person who has a total disability permanent in nature resulting from a service‑connected disability or the spouse of a veteran who died while a disability so evaluated was in existence.

Salary: $35,702 – $61,628 (PG: 12).
