Maintenance Technician -- 2nd shift
Metals USA is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Langhorne (Bucks County) PA. Metals USA is a solid, growth oriented, carbon‑steel (plate, beam, tube) distribution center servicing the defense, commercial, construction, aerospace and fabrication industries.
Work Hours 2:30 PM -- 10:30 PM
Position Summary The Maintenance Technician performs basic diagnostic tests, evaluates equipment performance, performs preventive maintenance of equipment and troubleshoots & performs equipment/systems repairs both routine and emergency.
Responsibilities
Repairs, services and inspects facility equipment and property to include: overhead cranes, production machinery, material handling equipment and facility grounds.
Complies with company and OSHA safety policies and safe work practices, e.g. lock out/tag out, safety data sheets and hazardous material usage.
Operates industrial equipment and observes mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
Inspects or tests damaged machine parts, and marks defective areas or advises supervisor of repair needs.
Performs building and equipment maintenance, repair and improvements. Performs preventive maintenance on CNC machinery, electrical and hydraulic systems, overhead cranes and other fabricating equipment.
Installs, replaces, or changes machine parts, attachments and new equipment according to production specifications.
Reassembles machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
Lubricates or applies adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures.
Records production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
Reads maintenance repair work orders and specifications to determine machine and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
Inspects, operates or test machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
Sets up and operates machines, and adjusts controls to regulate operations.
Collaborates with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment.
Maintains equipment files and orders spare‑parts inventory on service center equipment and works effectively with operations to implement a preventive maintenance program to improve equipment uptime (or reliability).
Drives company motor vehicle (non‑DOT) occasionally for local pick‑up for parts or equipment.
Plans and lays out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, or schematic diagrams.
Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Plant Maintenance Technician in the warehouse.
Notifies management of any problems that might affect production schedules.
Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
Certifications / Licenses
Valid OSHA Forklift certification
Valid Overhead crane certification
Physical Demands
Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)
Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend, prolonged extension of neck
Use of extension ladders, aerial cranes with harness
Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 – 100 lbs. with assistance
Other Physical Requirements
Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
Steel‑toed boots
Hard hats with helmet light and chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse
Protective eyewear
Hand protection
Arm guards/sleeves
Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program
Fast‑paced moderately stressful, constantly changing day‑to‑day work environment
Work Environment May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.
Environmental temperature changes (extreme heat & cold)
Working inside and outside of an industrial warehouse
Moderate to loud levels
Vibration
Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
Day and night shifts
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts or chemicals
Qualifications
High / Technical School Graduate or Equivalent
Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and perform repairs
Ability to read English (to read maintenance work orders, schematics/blueprints, safety and policy manuals)
Ability to comprehend electrical – mechanical and hydraulic systems, HVAC and plumbing systems
Knowledge of electricity (110, 230 and 460 voltage)
Experience operating an overhead crane, forklift, hand tools and common shop machinery
Basic measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and a tape measure, caliper or micrometer
Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Products
Demonstrated ability to perform electronic, mechanical and hydraulic repairs used in electrical and mechanical work assignments
Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm‑hand steadiness, and multi‑limb coordination
Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be on‑call at various times including weekends
