Job Responsibilities Under direct supervision, the Sex Offender Agent Trainee is expected to have a thorough understanding of the sex offender conditions, laws, restrictions and forms associated with the program. The agent monitors and documents enforcement of the condition of non‑sex offender supervision, understands the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry requirements, proximity limitations for offenders, sex offender treatment processes, and the use of digital media. Agents must identify red‑flag behaviors associated with reoffending, understand the offense cycle of sex offenders to determine risk, and have knowledge of various treatment methods for monitoring progress.

Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses. An associate’s degree plus two (2) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (including Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted; or a high school diploma plus four (4) years of military or certified law enforcement experience may be submitted as an alternative.

Preferred Qualifications In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, applicants will be required to obtain C‑1 law enforcement certification by the SC Criminal Justice Academy within one year of employment (12 weeks, including an 8‑week sequestration at the academy).

Additional Comments SCDPPPS disciplinary actions are considered during the interview phase. The Department is a para‑military organization. Applicants are subject to the following evaluation: Nelson‑Denny Test (Reading Comprehension & Vocabulary), physical ability test, background check, credit check, cybervetting, driving records, criminal records, illicit drug screening, physical and psychological exams.
