Audit Chief – Supervising Management Auditor
Salary : $10,049.00 – $11,979.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.

Under the general direction of the Deputy Inspector General, the incumbent assists in planning, organizing, directing, reviewing, and coordinating the audit activities of the Independent Office of Audits and Investigations (IOAI). The incumbent directly oversees staff in the conduct of audits, establishes and maintains uniform audit policies, manuals, and procedures; and provides leadership and guidance to meet IOAI's strategic goals. Assures compliance with all applicable auditing standards.
Working Conditions This position may be eligible for telework; the amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is based on Caltrans’s telework policy. Certain in‑person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to report to on-site work locations with short notice if urgent. Commute to the headquarters and occasional business travel may be required; respective expenses are the candidate's responsibility.

The process provides for examination and job selection consistent with the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the classification.
Minimum Qualifications
Either I:
One year of experience in the California state service as a professional auditor/accountant at a level not less than that of a Senior Management Auditor, or two years of experience at a level not less than Staff Management Auditor.
Or II:
Five years in a professional accounting, auditing, or examining position, with at least two years directed at a large and complex independent post‑audit program, or four years in a management consulting role with at least two years directed at a large consultant program (state service experience must include at least two years at the Staff Management Auditor level).
The education pattern listed under Education Requirements.
Education Requirements Preferred college graduate majoring in accounting, business administration, public administration, or economics, with at least six semester units of accounting. Registration as a senior at a recognized institution allows application to the Staff Services Management Auditor examinations but graduation evidence is required for appointment.
Examination Information Examination will evaluate experience and education against the Class Specification. Accurate and complete completion of the State application (STD 678) and documentation of relevant experience is essential.
