Shiley Co-Pilots provide tutoring to UP students in courses such as Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. A candidate’s ability to tutor in these classes is dependent on academic performance and interest in each course. Co-Pilots can tutor in-person in the Learning Commons, remotely on campus, or both. Co-Pilots are also required to do drop-in tutoring at least one hour per week in the Learning Commons. The Learning Commons is a program of the Shepard Academic Resource Center (SARC).
Core Duties
Support active student learning including learning strategies, homework and assignment assistance, study skills, test and quiz reviews, and providing encouragement.
Actively participate in all required training sessions.
Maintain a professional, welcoming environment in the Learning Commons and online spaces.
Value and maintain confidentiality of students following FERPA guidelines.
Maintain accurate record of time worked and active tutoring time.
Follow Learning Commons Code of Ethics.
Maintain a clean and organized space in the Group Work Lab and Learning Commons.
Other relevant duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of course candidate will tutor in with a grade of A- or higher.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Availability to work a minimum of 2-4 hours per week.
Ability to have a flexible work schedule based on appointment requests.
At least a second-year class standing.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated excellence in academic peer assistance within or outside of the classroom or experience teaching or one‑on‑one tutoring.
Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.
