The Chemistry Workshop Leader will report to the instructor of the course. The assigned classroom for the course will be a shared academic classroom. The approximate hours will be 2.5 per week (~32 hours each semester). The course instructor will inform the Workshop Leader of performance deficiencies (if any) and where they are performing well, on an ongoing basis. A Workshop Leader who is not performing to the communicated expectations may be dismissed and replaced with another qualified applicant any time during the semester for which they are hired.
Core Duties
The workshop leader must be available during the scheduled period for the workshop
The workshop leader is expected to be ready for what the students will be doing during each period
The workshop leader is expected to communicate regularly with the course instructor regarding the students’ progress in the class
A weekly meeting with the instructor may also be required
Extra hours are possible to help the professor with grading
Other relevant tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The workshop leader must have taken and been successful (B or higher) in the course for which they are the workshop leader
The workshop leader must be able to help the students with the material and facilitate discussion, but must not tell students everything they need to do or do the work for them
The workshop leader should know the concepts covered in the course and how to help others master the material
Preferred Qualifications
The workshop leader should have good people skills
Upper-division (junior/senior) chemistry or biochemistry majors will be given preference
