Join the New York State Office of Mental Health as a Senior Recreation Therapist at Elmira Psychiatric Center.
Pay Base pay range: $63,361.00 – $80,655.00 per year.
Duties
Develop, implement, and deliver recreation therapy services for individuals with mental illness.
Modify activities based on the individual's physical or rehabilitative needs.
Observe and record individuals' progress, responses, and behaviors.
Maintain records and documentation in accordance with program standards and requirements.
Design and administer individual and group programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Either a Bachelor's degree with 2 years post‑degree experience in therapeutic recreation for populations including geriatric, developmental disabilities, mental illness, or substance use disorders; or a Master’s degree with 1 year post‑degree experience.
Substitution options: licensure/registration as Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT), certification as Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), registration as Art, Dance/Movement, Music, or Drama Therapist, or equivalent certification.
Eligibility to be considered under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program.
Alternative consideration for competitive class appointments or promotion examinations per civil service law.
