Responsibilities The Employment Development Department (EDD) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Information Technology Specialist II to join the Network Engineering group within the Information Technology Branch. Under general supervision, the selected candidate will support the EDD's enterprise IT Network engineering and operations, including hardware and software components and the confidential data managed by the organization.
The incumbent will:
Support implementation, maintenance, and operations of statewide IT network systems.
Assist in shaping the Information Technology Branch’s transformation into a customer‑focused service organization by adhering to the Branch's cultural principles.
Foster positive communication and build relationships with vendors, colleagues, management, and clients.
Prepare to report to the office on assigned in‑office days and cover travel costs to the headquarters at 800 Capitol Mall, Sacramento, California.
Required Skills
Understanding of IP networking, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), routing, switching, and ability to configure and troubleshoot network devices such as routers, switches, wireless controllers, and firewalls.
Skills in network security, including firewalls, virtualization security, and troubleshooting.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and automation tools.
Ability to monitor, detect network bottlenecks and improve efficiency.
Cloud computing knowledge such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; concepts like virtualization and hybrid cloud computing.
Firm understanding of Layer‑1 technologies such as single‑mode, multimode fiber and Layer‑1 troubleshooting tools.
