Social Worker – CCDC Great Valley
Position:
Social Worker in the Student Services Division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit.
Location:
Child & Career Development Center – Great Valley Campus, 40 Moores Rd, Malvern, PA 19355.
Summary of Position The Social Worker will provide resources to families and act as a liaison between school, community agencies, and home. Responsibilities include tracking student attendance, making home visits, providing counseling and interventions, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to support student well‑being.
Duties & Responsibilities
Student Support and Counseling
Provide individual and group counseling to students facing emotional, social, or behavioral issues.
Develop intervention strategies to help students overcome personal and academic challenges.
Support students dealing with trauma, family issues, bullying, or mental health needs.
Crisis Intervention
Respond to immediate crises such as abuse reports, suicidal ideation, or school‑wide emergencies.
Provide short‑term counseling and make referrals for long‑term support when needed.
Coordinate with crisis response teams and follow intermediate unit protocols.
Assessment and Evaluation
Collaborate with IEP teams in creating Functional Behavior Assessments and Positive Behavior Support Plans.
Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and 504 planning.
Family Support and Engagement
Communicate with families to strengthen the school‑home connection.
Offer resources for mental health services, housing assistance, food security, and other family needs.
Facilitate parent education workshops on topics such as bullying prevention, mental health, and parenting strategies.
Advocacy and Case Management
Coordinate with external agencies such as child protective services, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
Staff Consultation and Training
Consult with teachers, administrators, and staff about best practices for supporting students’ mental health and social needs.
Provide training sessions on trauma‑informed care, restorative practices, and cultural competency.
Program Development
Create and implement prevention and intervention programs (e.g., anti‑bullying initiatives, mental health awareness campaigns).
Evaluate and adjust programs based on school needs and outcomes.
Record Keeping and Compliance
Maintain confidential and detailed records according to state and federal laws.
Complete required documentation for interventions, assessments, and referrals.
Stay updated with legal requirements such as FERPA, IDEA, and child welfare laws.
Collaboration
Serve as a liaison between school, home, and community.
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including counselors, psychologists, special education staff, and administrators.
Promoting Equity and Inclusion
Address barriers to education related to poverty, disability, race, gender, and other factors.
Advocate for inclusive practices that support all students’ learning and development.
Additional Responsibilities
All other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
MA in social work or related field required.
Experience working in schools.
Experience working with community agencies servicing children.
Professional Certifications
Licensed social worker or licensed clinical social worker required.
Schedule Monday–Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 210 days/year (211 during the first year).
Salary Project, Band 14, $55,715.42 – $69,644.88 per year. Salary is based on years of direct experience in a comparable role.
