Job Summary

The Painter / Carpenter performs maintenance, construction, and repair work on hospital buildings, interiors, exteriors, fixtures, and furniture. This position is responsible for painting surfaces, constructing or repairing wood‑based structures, installing fixtures, and ensuring a clean, professional appearance in all hospital environments. The role supports regulatory compliance and contributes to the safety, comfort, and aesthetics of the facility.

Essential Functions

Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment

Mix and match paint colors as needed

Repair or build wooden structures, furniture, partitions, and fixtures using hand and power tools

Construct and frame walls or partitions using wood or metal studs

Install and repair doors, locks, ceiling tiles, floors, and signs

Replace glass windows, install suspended ceilings, and perform minor roof repairs

Accurately read blueprints and measure materials for construction and repairs

Maintain work areas, tools, and equipment in clean and safe working order

Document work completed and maintain accurate records

Respond to departmental work orders and requests from other departments

Install hardware such as hinges, locks, expansion joints, and wall protection

Perform finishing work such as installing wallpaper, patching, sanding, and refinishing furniture

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment

Ability to read and follow blueprints, measurements, and detailed instructions

Knowledge of painting techniques and carpentry best practices

Manual dexterity and physical strength to perform heavy and repetitive tasks

Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks

Demonstrated professionalism and respect when working in patient care areas

Education

Trade or vocational school training preferred

High school diploma or equivalent required

Licenses/Certifications

None required

Experience

1–3 years of relevant experience in painting and carpentry

Experience in healthcare or institutional facility maintenance preferred
