Surgical Scheduling Coordinator II - Dubin Breast Center The Dubin Breast Center of The Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai offers integrated care for every phase of breast health. Our team of experts provides prevention, diagnostics, surgery, medical and radiation treatment, and support after treatment, ensuring a seamless, personalized, holistic experience.

Description Responsible for scheduling DAS and ambulatory OR surgery/procedure cases daily for both adult and pediatric patients. Provides support to front‑office operations to ensure smooth patient flow, including registration, scheduling, and pre/post follow‑up calls. Contacts insurance providers to obtain pre‑authorization for surgical procedures and diagnostic testing. Actively participates in process improvement initiatives to enhance coordination of care.

Responsibilities

Coordinate all OR surgeries and procedures.

Monitor front‑office workflow and adjust to ensure optimum service delivery.

Verify patient demographics and obtain pre‑certification from insurance carriers for all OR surgeries and procedures.

Obtain patient medical clearance.

Resolve patient issues or answer questions regarding policies and procedures.

Place surgical confirmation calls one day in advance of scheduled surgery or procedure date.

Schedule post‑op follow‑up visits with providers.

Liaise between referring physicians and surgeons to communicate clinical data and determine OR scheduling.

Train and mentor other Surgical Scheduling Coordinators or less senior staff within the unit.

Collect and distribute appropriate paperwork to internal and external parties to coordinate surgeries.

Record hospital reservation and pre‑admit data in the CERNER system.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate degree preferred.

Certificate in Medical Technology preferred.

Certificate in ICD‑9 preferred.

Certificate in CPT coding preferred.

3 years of scheduling experience, with 2 years in a clinical setting, preferably in a medical practice environment.

Compensation The salary range for this role is $23.01 – $34.52 per hour. Actual salaries vary by experience, education, and operational need. Benefits and other compensation are not included in this range.
