Job Summary The Scientist I position is a full‑time appointment in the laboratory of Dr. Alexey Glukhov within the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Medicine, at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison. The University of Wisconsin‑Madison is a leading public research institution with a strong commitment to biomedical research, education, and clinical innovation. The department supports a broad range of basic and translational programs aimed at improving human health. Dr. Glukhov’s laboratory focuses on understanding mechanisms of heart rhythm disorders and regulation of cardiac function.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct electrophysiological studies and pharmacological testing on isolated, Langendorff‑perfused mouse and rat hearts and on isolated mouse and rat atrial preparations under a variety of physiological conditions (neurohormonal, mechanical, drug‑based stimulation). These experiments evaluate heart electrical activity, calcium signaling, and mechanical function.

Collect, organize, analyze, and document research data in accordance with institutional policies. Prepare research summaries, reports, and manuscripts for submission to peer‑reviewed journals, present findings at local and national scientific meetings, and review relevant scientific literature.

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in cardiac electrophysiology, cardiac mechanics, and cell biophysics.

Experience conducting research involving animal models.

Experience working with isolated cardiac preparations, including Langendorff‑perfused hearts and isolated atrial and sinoatrial node preparations from mouse and rat models.

Experience with electrophysiological measurement techniques such as ECG, optical mapping, and related electrical recording methods.

Knowledge of cardiac pharmacology and neurohormonal regulation of heart function.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in mechanobiology and mechanical regulation of cardiac function.

Experience with basic molecular biology techniques.

Experience working with isolated single cardiac muscle cells.

Experience using fluorescent microscopy and related imaging techniques.
