The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) mission is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

Overview and Responsibilities The Department of Corrections is seeking candidates for an Offender Information Specialist II to perform sentencing calculations in order to determine parole eligibility and release of inmates. This position will also maintain various offender inmate records.

Calculates terms of imprisonment to ensure that inmates have served the length of time required and issuing any credits to their sentences, release dates, jail time, parole eligibility and good time adjustments.

Audits accuracy of terms of imprisonment.

Review inmate records for transfers.

Enter data regarding terms of imprisonment into the Kentucky Offender Management System and maintain the status of active and inactive probationers.

Serve as liaison for institutional staff.

Provide verbal and written information regarding the status of prisoners to officials and the public.

Furnish records information to administrative staff, the Parole Board and Courts.

Prepare inmate furloughs, transfers, conditional release and parole lists.

Answer telephone inquiries from Probation and Parole Offices for information regarding inmate's sentences and release dates for the Pre-Sentence Investigation.

Respond to requests for information according to open records statutes.

Implement all functions associated with receiving and discharging inmates to and from the Department of Corrections.

Communicate with courts, county and state agencies, general public, inmates, institution staff, regarding inmates official records.

Interpret, adhere to and enforce all rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to inmate records.

Minimum Requirements Education:

Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

Experience, Training, or Skills:

One year of experience in management, administration, legal, paralegal, or offender records.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:

NONE.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:

Administrative, legal, paralegal, law enforcement, or offender records work experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions Work is typically performed in an office setting.

Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
