The Simmons Cancer Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a skilled and strategic Clinical Research Manager to oversee the management of the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) Phase I Disease Oriented Team (DOT), supporting malignant hematology clinical trials. The position works closely with the physician leader of the DOT and manages the organizational and operational activities of clinical trials conducted at SCCC in Dallas, with oversight of the pipeline of trials being considered for activation by the Phase I DOT. The incumbent will establish performance standards and expectations for managers, supervisors, and staff, and will conduct periodic assessments to ensure these standards are met, fostering excellence and growth across the program. Bachelor’s Degree in science, social science, business, health-related field (including nursing) or Master’s Degree in science, social science, business, or health-related field, or PhD or equivalent in science, social science, business, or health-related field Experience
6 years of related experience including management experience with a Bachelor’s Degree; or 4 years of related experience with a Master’s Degree; or 3 years of related experience with a PhD. Preferred Prior experience in the UTSW clinical research mentoring program is highly desirable, and participation in the UTSW clinical research mentoring program may count as additional experience. Licenses and Certifications
CPR/CPR‑AED may be required based on study protocols or affiliate location requirements; Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required. JOB DUTIES Review proposed new research studies and determine projects to implement; negotiate budgets and contracts; initiate regulatory activities; prepare necessary project summaries and consent forms for IRB; ensure regulatory compliance. Oversee ongoing studies and quality assurance measures; negotiate favorable agreements with laboratories and collaborators; monitor profitability of studies; renegotiate contracts and supplements as needed. Direct financial oversight of the clinical research unit; ensure invoicing accuracy and sponsor payments; manage expenditures from funding sources. Participate in staff selection; provide training to research, financial, laboratory, and administrative staff; evaluate performance and implement quality improvements; monitor policies and procedures for optimal operation. Identify potential sponsors; develop and oversee marketing strategies. Foster collaborative relationships between the clinical research unit and basic science facilities. Design and maintain internal controls to ensure operations are effective and assets are safeguarded. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Core functions may include direct interaction with patients or human-subjects research participants and handling patient or research records as applicable. Performs other duties as assigned.
