About the Job:
A respected and well-established mechanical contractor on the South Shore is looking for an experienced HVAC/R Project Manager to oversee the successful execution of commercial and industrial installation projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys leading field teams, solving problems on the fly, and ensuring that high-value projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to client specifications.
The HVAC/R Project Manager plays a central role in every phase of the project lifecycle—from planning and procurement to close-out and performance evaluation. You will serve as the primary point of contact between the office, field crews, subcontractors, and clients, ensuring that work is completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Installation Projects:
Manage multiple HVAC/R construction projects from start to finish, including planning, scheduling, staffing, budgeting, and delivery.
Coordinate Teams & Resources:
Collaborate with field foremen, subcontractors, general contractors, and internal teams to ensure proper sequencing of work, jobsite safety, and workflow optimization.
Budget & Cost Control:
Work with estimators and install managers to build and track project budgets; review labor productivity and expenses; manage change orders, RFIs, and scope adjustments.
Project Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain accurate and organized project records; ensure compliance with contracts, permits, insurance requirements, and local codes.
Client Communication:
Serve as the point of contact for clients and GCs during project execution; resolve issues promptly while maintaining positive working relationships.
Material & Equipment Procurement:
Oversee timely ordering and delivery of HVAC equipment, tools, and materials while ensuring they meet specifications.
Field Support:
Provide layout assistance and technical support to jobsite personnel; help troubleshoot issues in the field.
Project Closeout:
Ensure systems are properly started up and tested; complete and submit all required documentation for final billing and close-out.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience managing HVAC/R or mechanical installation projects
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field ()
Journeyman license and/or PMP certification a plus
Proven ability to manage multiple active job sites and teams simultaneously
Strong knowledge of HVAC/R systems, construction methods, and safety standards
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and Procore (or similar project management tools)
Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and interpersonal
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to jobsite challenges
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to visit and walk active construction job sites regularly
Occasional lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and navigating ladders or scaffolding
Ability to communicate effectively in person and via phone and email
Must be able to travel to project sites as needed
