Aquatic Center Director

An Aquatic Center Director plans, develops, coordinates and implements aquatics recreation programs. Work of this class involves supervising full-time and part-time aquatic and recreation leaders and assistants. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek which may include evening and weekend hours. Work is performed in an aquatic center where unpleasant working conditions are rarely encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion. Minimum Qualifications: On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must: Education: Have a bachelor's degree in recreation, recreation administration, physical education, or a related field from an accredited college or university. AND Experience: Have two (2) years of experience in lifeguard, pool operation, pool management or aquatic training. OR Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Candidates must hold and maintain the following certificates issued by the American Red Cross: Lifeguard Certificate Lifeguard Instructor Certificate Water Safety Instructor Certificate Certified Pool Operator Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of aquatic and recreation program development. Knowledge of the techniques of designing, planning and promoting aquatic activities. Knowledge of the procedures of securing and administering grants. Ability to make responsible decisions in life-threatening situations. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and administer a complex recreational aquatic program. Ability to evaluate program facilitation and implementation effectiveness and adjust when necessary. Ability to supervise pool staff and train others. Ability to establish good working relationships with a diverse group of employees, the community and organizational partners and patrons. Ability to provide excellent customer service and create a work atmosphere where serving others is a priority. Ability to communicate effectively. Additional Information: Background Check: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. Probation: All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months. Eligibility: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. Education Accreditation: Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Selection Process: All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination.
