Construction Building Inspector II-DGS

Salary Range: $59,863.00 - $72,835.00 ANNUALLY A Construction Building Inspector II-DGS conducts on-site inspections of new building construction or renovation projects of lead contaminated residential and multi-family homes to ensure contract and specification compliance or to conduct energy assessments. Work involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek, but may be required to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours on a 24-hour on-call basis. Work is performed at construction sites where incumbents may encounter dust, mud, noise, heights, and inclement weather conditions. Work requires moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, and crouching at building work sites. Minimum Qualifications On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must: Education: Graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED certificate. And Experience: Have five years of experience in one of the building trades or in building and construction inspection. Or Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses, Registrations and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit. Provisional driver's licenses are not acceptable. Note: You must upload a copy of your valid driver's license with application at time of applying. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques of building and other structural construction work. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures including OSHA rules and regulations. Knowledge of construction codes and standards. Ability to read, interpret, and revise drawings and specifications. Ability to conduct field inspections and make recommendations. Mathematic ability. Ability to interpret departmental standards, policies, and procedures. Ability to communicate, train, and establish effective working relationships with others. Ability to maintain records and write reports. Additional Information Background Check: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. Probation: All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month's probation. Eligibility: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final. Education Accreditation: Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency.
