Job Summary:
The Phlebotomist Patient Services Representative III - Floater will provide skilled phlebotomy services and patient support across multiple patient service centers and in-office phlebotomy locations in Chicago, IL. This role involves collecting blood specimens , preparing them for laboratory testing, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The PSR III Floater will travel between sites, covering shifts to maintain seamless patient care. Strong customer service skills, flexibility, and expertise in pediatric and geriatric blood draws are essential for success.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages, ensuring specimen integrity and patient comfort.
  • Prepare, label, and process specimens for laboratory testing according to CLIA, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Verify patient identification and obtain signatures to confirm specimen labeling accuracy.
  • Deliver high-quality, error-free work in fast-paced, high-volume clinical settings.
  • Maintain accurate patient and specimen records in laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Travel to multiple Chicago-area phlebotomy sites , often with short notice, to provide coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with company dress code, safety protocols, and infection control guidelines.
  • Promote a professional and compassionate environment while interacting with patients, providers, and colleagues.
  • Participate in training sessions and competency assessments at designated locations.
Required Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years of phlebotomy experience , including pediatric and geriatric draws.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification required in California, Nevada, and Washington; preferred in other states.
  • At least 2 years working in a patient service center environment preferred.
  • Customer service experience in healthcare, retail, or service environments preferred.
  • Keyboard/data entry proficiency.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
  • Forensic blood collection and chain-of-custody specimen handling.
  • Prior mobile phlebotomy or floater role experience.
  • Familiarity with EPIC or other EHR systems .
Required Skills:
  • Expertise in venipuncture, capillary collections, and specimen preparation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills .
Preferred Skills:
  • Reliable transportation with a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Flexible scheduling, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
