The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an HVACR Specialist 2 for the Facilities Maintenance Services Department (FMS). This position provides support to the supervisor by assigning and scheduling work, ordering materials, performing project coordination, and work order management. This position also performs journey level HVACR repairs and preventative maintenance. Duties include (but are not limited to): Assist supervisor with implementation of new policies and procedures; Provide training and technical assistance to subordinate staff; Respond to trouble calls identified with work orders; Check in with customers to understand HVAC problems and then systematically troubleshoot the system in question; Troubleshoot electrical systems, heating and cooling hydronics, and ventilation airflow problems; Perform repairs in a timely manner by providing efficient and reliable operation and minimized equipment down time; Responsible for providing regular communication to customers during the repair process; Perform preventative maintenance on all associated HVAC equipment; change air filters, bearing lubrication, belt replacement, equipment inspections, and chiller tube bundle cleaning; Perform the duties of the Utility Plant Operator when required; ensuring a safe and efficient operation of the utility heat plant by monitoring the high temperature water boilers and related equipment; Responsible for monitoring and logging the heat plant temperatures, water consumption, pressures, and ensuring the high temperature system is providing temperatures needed for field high temperature heat exchangers; Monitor the campus building HVAC system using the Direct Digital Control systems looking for problems while performing the duties of the Operator; Responsible for closed and open loop systems, able to maintain and understand swimming pool treatment, test steam systems, and steam condensate; and Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications This position requires the completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program followed by one (1) year of journey level experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; OR One (1) year of experience as an HVACR Specialist 1 in Nevada State Service; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above Physical Demands This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling; exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This job requires working with and around hazardous building materials containing asbestos and solvents; frequent lifting, climbing, moving and installing, many in awkward or high locations; and exposure to hot and cold temperatures when working outside. This position requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate through speech. Schedule The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position may be able to elect an alternative work schedule. This position is part of the Facilities Services Weather Essential Personnel and may be required to report to work for their regularly scheduled shift without any phone/cell phone notification; and is subject to a variable workweek schedule. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours. Compensation Grade Grade 33 In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets.
