AWS Cloud Engineer
SMX is actively searching for a dynamic and adept AWS Cloud Engineer to support our government client in Huntsville, AL. This role emphasizes operational excellence, championed by a commitment to quality, articulate communication, client success, and measurable results, aligning with the essential duties and required skills for the position. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Handle events, incidents, and requests based on a defined, ticket-driven service catalog. Collaborate with customers to design and oversee Kubernetes (EKS), ECS, and Docker container solutions. Develop IaC templates, particularly using Terraform, to establish immutable infrastructure on AWS. Quickly evaluate and address AWS service issues, seeking support from AWS when essential. Manage the monitoring, updating, optimization, and stability of cloud systems. Oversee a range of AWS services, including but not limited to IAM, EC2, S3, VPC, Lambda, and ECS. Assist internal teams in provisioning and ensuring appropriate access to AWS resources. Assist during AWS infrastructure changes during planned maintenance and unplanned outages. Engage in resolving both infrastructure and application-related challenges. Take responsibility for issues, acting swiftly and decisively when necessary. Improve CI/CD tool integrations, aiming for full automation of CI/testing, emphasizing Terraform and GitOps best practices. Required Skills/Experience: Clearance Required: Secret Experience in cloud engineering / DevOps Experience in an Infrastructure Operations-centric role Understanding of Kubernetes (EKS), ECS, and Docker container fundamentals. Proficient command of CI/CD tools (Terraform, Ansible, Git, Jenkins, AWS CodeCommit, AWS CodePipeline, etc.) with an understanding of GitOps methodologies and best practices in Terraform. Ability to script in JavaScript, Bash, Python, or similar. Proficiency in security best practices, tools, and compliance frameworks (NIST, FedRAMP, HIPAA, etc.). Desired Skills/Experience: Degree in a technical discipline or an additional six years of experience in place of a degree. Possess cloud-related certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, Developer, etc. Application Deadline: 8/4/2025 The SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications.
