As an Applications Engineer I, you will play a key role in developing and presenting tailored automation solutions that align with customer needs and business objectives. You will be responsible for proposal development, cost estimation, and risk assessment, ensuring solutions are both technically sound and financially viable. By collaborating with sales teams, you will provide the technical expertise needed to communicate system benefits effectively. Additionally, you will maintain clear communication with customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring seamless project handoffs to engineering and project management teams.
Top 5 Responsibilities
Proposal & Cost Estimation, Customer Consultation & Solution Customization Engage with customers to understand their production challenges, automation goals, and integration requirements, and use this insight to create tailored proposals. Develop detailed system proposals, including cost analysis, ROI calculations, and technical specifications, ensuring alignment with the sales strategy. Risk Assessment & Mitigation Identify potential technical, financial, and operational risks in proposed solutions and develop mitigation strategies to enhance project success. Collaboration with Sales Teams Engage with the sales team to ensure they have the technical understanding and insights necessary to effectively communicate and sell the proposed automation solutions to customers. Provide guidance on how to present technical aspects and benefits, addressing any customer concerns or questions during the sales process to ensure proper solution positioning. Customer & Internal Stakeholder Communication Maintain clear and consistent communication with both customers and internal teams, ensuring expectations are managed, project milestones are tracked, and any technical concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Project Handoff to Engineering & Project Management Ensure a smooth transition of awarded projects from the applications team to the engineering and project management teams, providing all relevant technical details and documentation to support project execution.
Additional Responsibilities / Duties
Independent Problem-Solving & Decision-Making Work under minimal supervision, managing tasks efficiently while ensuring high-quality project deliverables. Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation optimization to enhance efficiency and performance. Leadership & Mentorship Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, sharing expertise in automation technologies and applications engineering processes. Assist in resolving complex technical challenges, escalating only the most critical issues as necessary. Industry & Technology Research Stay ahead of robotics and automation trends relevant to key industries, ensuring solutions remain innovative, competitive, and aligned with market needs. Compliance & Standards Adherence Ensure all automation solutions comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and customer requirements.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field. Experience using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for designing automation concepts. Ability to effectively collaborate with sales teams, providing technical guidance for solution positioning. Excellent communication and presentation skills for engaging with customers and internal stakeholders. Proficiency in technical documentation and project handoff processes to engineering and project management teams. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of industrial automation system integration and related industry standards. Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with sales, engineering, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
3+ years of experience in applications engineering, industrial automation, or a related field. Strong background in proposal development, cost estimation, and ROI analysis for automation solutions. Familiarity with robotics, vision systems, pneumatics, motion control, and manufacturing automation. Experience conducting risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies in technical and financial contexts. Hands-on experience with robotic programming, PLCs, and control systems. Experience preparing and delivering technical sales presentations and customer consultations. Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
