Now Hiring: Experienced Outside Machinists - Avail Staffing
Are you an experienced Outside Machinist looking for a hands-on role in ship repair ? Avail Staffing is seeking skilled professionals to support the repair of U.S. Naval vessels in Hampton Roads . If you have 4+ years of experience working on ABS or NAVSEA-certified vessels , we want you on our team!
What You'll Do:
- Remove, repair, overhaul, install, and align main propulsion machinery and auxiliary equipment , including:
- Install and repair foundations for ship machinery and major components of ship armament.
- Test and inspect installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials .
- Use precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, height/depth gauges , and assist with optical equipment.
- Work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to execute high-quality installations and repairs.

Full-time, long-term contract work (40-50 hours per week)

-Minimum 3+ years of shipyard experience on ABS/NAVSEA vessels
-Ability to pass a background check and obtain a DBIDS badge
-Willingness to work day shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed

- Cargo handling machinery, anchor gear, cranes, and davits
- Elevators, conveyors, firefighting systems, and more
- Install and repair foundations for ship machinery and major components of ship armament.
- Test and inspect installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials .
- Use precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, height/depth gauges , and assist with optical equipment.
- Work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to execute high-quality installations and repairs.
