Senior Mainframe Developer Location: Trenton NJ Duration:
12 months
Note: Hybrid - 2 days Onsite, 3 Days Remote. Local Candidates preferred Engagement will be extended.
Job description: The consultant will be responsible for the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of mainframe-based applications. This includes coding, testing, debugging, and supporting business-critical systems using COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL. The role also requires strong collaboration with business users and technical teams to ensure requirements are translated accurately into functional solutions. Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Client's Information Technology Office (ITO) and business stakeholders to analyze and develop technical solutions that meet system and business requirements. Develop and/or receive detailed program specification requirements for new or modified programs. Perform coding, unit testing, and debugging of COBOL/CICS/DB2 applications. Support system testing in collaboration with end users (Usability Testing). Deliver complete documentation supporting developed components. Participate in production support, maintenance, and system enhancements. Provide expertise in database conversions, particularly IDMS to DB2, and IDMS/DC to CICS. Required Skills & Qualifications:
Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, CICS, and DB2. Proficiency with IBM OS/JCL (MVS). Experience in developing and debugging complex DB2 Stored Procedures. Prior experience in APPC/LU6.2 or MQ programming in COBOL-CICS. Experience with database conversions (IDMS to DB2). Skilled in writing technical documentation and supporting UAT. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical personnel. Experience in Java or Pega is a plus. 4-year college degree or equivalent technical training required. Required Skills:
Hands-on experience in COBOL, CICS, and DB2 coding, testing, and debugging IBM OS/JCL (MVS) CICS application development and support IBM DB2 database development and integration Developing supportive technical documentation Usability Testing, including participation in system testing with end users Effective verbal and written communication and collaboration with internal and external teams Broad technical and IT expertise across full development lifecycle Team leadership and mentoring experience SQL programming and query optimization Experience in IDMS/DC to CICS conversion Experience in IDMS to DB2 conversion Java, J2EE, and Web Services (nice to have) Experience with JAVA or PEGA platforms (nice to have) Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical study
