Immediate opening for Director of Membership and Communications
The Georgia Optometric Association (GOA) is a statewide professional organization with over 700 members.The GOA seeks a Membership/Communications associate to work on membership/dues processing, membership retention and recruitment/ communications, and staffing of volunteer committees for the association. The ideal candidate will be a team player who works well independently and enjoys working with a small staff for a professional association. The candidate will have strong time and project management skills with superior writing and editing skills. The candidate will also be able to administer and process dues payments from GOA members. The candidate will also be asked to work to grow the association by working with the membership committee to develop unique and creative mechanisms to recruit and retain members for the organization.
A high degree of accuracy, professionalism, and confidentiality must be maintained at all times. An individual with the ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems. A proven ability to meet deadlines and function in stressful situations and flourish in a multi-tasking environment.A college degree is required for the position and experience working for associations is not necessary but helpful.
The following are the responsibilities for the position:
Membership dues processing
Handling all responsibilities related to members, member recruitment and retention:
a. Process all member applications and paperwork for the Association and National Organization as it relates to Georgia.
b. Correspond directly to member phone calls and emails in a timely fashion
c. Provide Membership Reports to Executive Director, Board of Trustees, National Association Headquarters and Association CPA
d. Prepare and process all dues invoices, payments and track accounts receivable for State and National Association
e. Update membership information annually
Membership recruitment/retention
a. Work to develop unique and creative mechanisms to recruit and retain members to the organization.
b. Follow-up on member accounts in arrears
c. Maintain and promote membership benefits.
Communications
a. Coordinate the production and dissemination of electronic communications. Gather and/or generate web content and update website using association management content system.
b. Work with public relations consultant to oversee social media strategy and generate content aligned with organizational goals.
c. Coordinate the writing, layout and mailing of the GOA monthly newsletter.
d. Create marketing promotions for events, seminars and conferences to include email blasts and mailings.
e. Write and publish weekly e-news blast to members.
Misc Responsibilities
a. Preparation of misc. correspondences, bulk mailings, and general office duties
b. Assist in meetings preparation and on-site management, travel will be required and not optional.
c. Work to further develop and maintain the GOA grass roots contacts database with the GOA membership throughout the year.
d. Organize, promote, and execute “Optometry’s Day at the Capitol.”
Staffing of volunteer committees
Manage and provide leadership to volunteer committees to ensure that committee members are fully supported and accomplish tasks required. Serve as the main staff person for the Young OD committee, corporate affiliate committee and membership committee.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate will have proficient knowledge of computers and software including, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Products and some desktop publishing experience. They will have the ability to quickly learn the association database (MemberClicks) and be able to incorporate its functionalities into daily life to improve office efficiency. Must be a very responsible, self-starter who is detail oriented, possess good phone etiquette, a team player who is able to multitask within a small office setting and work unsupervised on occasion.
Some experience in communications/marketing. Understanding of newsletter development, web communications e-mail marketing is a necessity. Experience with Constant Contact email distribution software.
