Role: GIS Analyst/Programmer (Junior)

Location: Washington, DC

Job Description:

We are seeking a Junior GIS Analyst/Programmer to support GIS data production and analysis for the State of DC. The candidate will work with GIS tools, produce high-quality data products, and support GIS projects within the organization.

Required Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with GIS data production
• Experience with Esri GIS tools including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online
• Ability to produce high-quality data products with metadata
• Experience in QA/QC of data products
• Knowledge of GIS techniques such as map production, geometry editing (COGO), geocoding, especially with addressing and cadastral data
• Experience with SQL queries and geospatial relationship queries
• Ability to create effective cartographic outputs
• Experience with data management and metadata standards
• Experience working with enterprise and file geodatabases
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Highly Desired Skills:

• Experience with aerial photography data
• Experience with planimetric data
• Python scripting skills
• Ability to propose new tools and methods for process improvement
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in Geography, Computer Science, Planning, or a related field, or equivalent experience. GISP certification is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities:

1. Analyze, design, develop, and support enterprise GIS projects.
2. Collaborate with other departments to determine system requirements and resolve issues.
3. Participate in system design reviews and problem resolution.
4. Review and approve system and application design documents.
5. Evaluate system changes for feasibility and alternatives.
6. Develop new systems and upgrade existing ones, ensuring compliance with standards.
7. Develop complex database queries and reports.
