SUMMARY
We are seeking a dedicated RN-Operating Room to join our Surgical T eam . Reporting to the Director, Patient Care Services, you will provide professional nursing care to patients of all ages and their significant others through the nursing process of assessment planning, implementation and evaluation during the preoperative, intra-operative and post-operative surgical experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrates full working knowledge of the nursing process and its application to the surgical patient.
2. Maintains all records in compliance with regulatory agency standards of care.
3. OR Nurse: Practices safety by correct management of equipment.
4. Counts instruments and sponges correctly.
5. OPSU Nurse: Assesses and directs patients through pre-operative tests and education process.
6. Follows up all patient's transfer/discharge information and education with a personal phone call and subsequent patient satisfaction information.
7. Recovery Room Nurse: Observes, reports and manages post-operative changes and complication under the guidance of the Department of Anesthesia.
8. Administers medication according to hospital policy.
9. Observes and documents patient response.
10. Reports adverse drug reactions.
11. Observes aseptic technique and shows knowledge of surgical procedures and practices.
12. Assists in departmental orientation of nurses, students and technicians.
13. Correctly counts instruments and sponges.
14. Initiates and updates physician preference cards.
15. Participates in the requisitioning of supplies and equipment as needed.
16. Actively participates in Quality Improvement for the Surgical Department.
17. Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner.
18. Assists in transporting the patient from the operating table to the stretcher or Critical Care bed.
19. Assumes the responsibilities of scheduled "surgical call"
20. Utilizes proper body mechanics in all job functions.
21. Follows established emergency, infection control and/or universal precautions/procedures as required.
22. Attends mandatory in-services related to safety and/or infection control.
23. Demonstrates required knowledge and skills to effectively consider individual's diagnosis, diverse culture, religious beliefs and age.
24. Demonstrate the ability to manage patients of all ages with special needs.
25. Evaluates environmental safety and provides an environment that is safe based on and age and developmental status.
26. Demonstrates flexibility with additional duties and assignments to achieve the department's goals.
COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital's compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Current State of IL RN License
- Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing
- Current BLS certification
- BSN Preferred
- ACLS and Basic EKG Competency within 90 days of hire
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and/or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing and ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors. There will be periods of stressful intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem-solving situations.
