Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Calibration Technician-ideally a former Calibration Lab Manager or Quality Manager-to serve as a key technical resource within our organization. This role involves evaluating customer equipment lists, determining our lab's current calibration capabilities, recommending required equipment additions, and supporting both internal and external inquiries regarding calibration services. The successful candidate will also play a critical role in supporting the sales team with pricing input and customer visits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate customer equipment lists to determine calibration feasibility and technical fit within current lab capabilities.
- Identify additional equipment or standards needed to expand or fulfill calibration requests.
- Answer internal and external technical questions regarding calibration capability, uncertainty, standards, and applicable methods.
- Handle customer service inquiries that involve technical or quality-related concerns, including documentation, certificates, and compliance questions.
- Work closely with the sales team to establish appropriate pricing based on complexity, uncertainty, scope of work, and competitive benchmarks.
- Participate in customer calls and on-site visits as the technical subject matter expert when needed.
- Provide technical guidance on scope interpretation, OEM specifications, and standards compliance (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025).
- Coordinate with lab personnel and quality team to validate capability or recommend alternative solutions when a request is outside current scope.
- Assist with quoting and proposal preparation for technical calibration jobs.
- Maintain knowledge of industry standards, accreditation requirements, and metrology best practices.
- Mentor junior technicians or support staff on calibration principles and lab capability assessment.
- Drive continuous improvement and support operational growth by developing and enhancing quality initiatives and programs.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in a calibration laboratory, preferably with multi-discipline experience (electrical, dimensional, temperature, pressure, etc.).
- Prior experience as a Calibration Lab Manager, Quality Manager, or Senior Calibration Technician is strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, OEM manuals, and calibration industry standards.
- Proven ability to interpret equipment specs and determine method applicability.
- Experience handling technical customer service inquiries and resolving quality or compliance issues.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and common calibration and asset management software systems (e.g., IndySoft).
- Highly organized and analytical with attention to detail.
- ASQ CCT (Certified Calibration Technician) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with quality audits or lab accreditation processes.
- Familiarity with quoting tools or CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Office and calibration lab environment.
- Occasional travel to customer sites in support of sales or technical evaluations.
- May require lifting of light to moderate equipment during capability assessments.
