Summary Description Under the direction of the High School Principal, the resource teacher (RT) provides leadership to departments or subject field(s), supports classroom teachers in the instructional program, serves as an instructional role model, and supports the development of a professional learning community within the department and school. Observes and analyzes instructional practices related to teachers’ professional growth and evaluation, collaborates with supervisors and colleagues on instructional issues, takes a leadership role in the handling of instructional resources, and supports the development of the master schedule. Stays current on content and best practices in the specified subject field. Serves as a liaison to the central office on subject matter and instructional issues. Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement. Job Specific Information A JFK Leadership Training Institute (LTI) Resource Teacher is needed to empower students through rigorous interdisciplinary experiential learning, community service projects, and leadership theory and application. LTI is a signature Academy program at Kennedy. The LTI Coordinator will also teach a section of Latin American History and facilitate Research Project, Internship, and Student Leader courses. Kennedy High School Location: Silver Spring Schedule: Full-time Working Months: 10 Shift: Day Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Thorough knowledge of instructional strategies and content knowledge for the specified subject field(s). Ability to work effectively with adults in a professional learning environment; observe and analyze classroom teaching skills; excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS) and Supporting Services (SEIU) Professional Growth System (SSPGS). Education & Experience A Master's degree or equivalent in an applicable field from an accredited institution is required. Minimum of five years successful secondary teaching, with three years in the relevant subject field and one year in MCPS preferred. Experience with instructional leadership, curriculum implementation, and professional development is desirable. Completion of Observing and Analyzing Teaching (OAT 1 and OAT 2) is required. Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field. Additional Information
