Job Title:
Mainframe & AS400 Systems Programmer
Location: Providence, RI
Duration: One Year Contract with possibility of extensions.
Hours/ week: 35
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced COBOL Programmer to provide application development and systems support for legacy platforms, including IBM iSeries Power 9 (AS400) and IBM mainframe environments (VSE, MVS, and VM). This role involves maintaining and enhancing existing COBOL-based applications, supporting system interfaces, and assisting in modernization and migration initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform COBOL programming to maintain, enhance, and troubleshoot legacy applications. Support application development in native COBOL (with limited exposure to RPG). Develop and maintain system interfaces utilizing ODBC, SFTP, GoAnywhere, SharePoint, IRS FIRE, QLIK, SMB, FTP, and other integration methods. Support screen scraping technologies for legacy IVR systems. Design and program forms using XL Print Paris Software and FormDocs. Create and maintain comprehensive application documentation. Manage and support application databases using DB2 and SQL, including multimember records. Utilize development tools such as Spell/400, Surveyor, and X-Analysis for analysis and support. Collaborate with operators to resolve runtime errors and other production issues. Configure and maintain application security protocols. Apply technical best practices and provide recommendations for performance and security enhancements. Participate in efforts to modernize and migrate legacy applications. Generate operational, ad-hoc, and user-defined reports.
Requirements:
Proven expertise in: COBOL programming CICS transaction processing SQL programming and database development Application interface design and support AS400 (IBM iSeries) and mainframe (VSE, MVS, VM) environments Legacy system support and maintenance
Preferred Skills:
Experience with RPG, XL Print Paris, FormDocs, and legacy IVR technologies. Familiarity with tools such as Spell/400, Surveyor, and X-Analysis. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a shared support environment.
