Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Library Director and Library Manager, the part-time Technology Library Assistant plays a vital role in expanding access to digital literacy, hands-on learning, and creative technology to empower our community to learn new skills, express creativity, and pursue workforce or educational opportunities. The Technology Library Assistant performs library work centered around our LABtana technology hub and makerspace, creating and implementing classes, and offers routine IT support to library staff and patrons. They also perform daily library work which requires the application of clerical and skilled techniques to varied library functions. The Assistant may be in charge of the library during evening hours. The Assistant must demonstrate tact, friendliness, and discretion in helping the library's users. The Assistant will be assigned shifts and types of duty according to the needs of the department. - Assists patrons with inquiries and use of library equipment, including internet, printers, copy machine, Glowforge Laser cutter, 3D printers, coding robots, Apple laptops, scanner, and fax machine.
- Plans and implements library programming for all kids, teens, and adults, based around the library's creative makerspace technology.
- Charges and discharges circulation materials and handles overdue notices.
- Attends outreach events with Library administration at local schools.
- Maintains organization of the library's technology and the LABtana room.
- Recommends new technology for the LABtana room.
- Keeps abreast of new Technology trends and practices.
- Registers new patrons and collects and records payments for non-resident borrowers' cards.
- Opens and closes the library, arranges tools and materials for daily use, and monitors the library's physical condition as necessary.
- Shelves books, periodicals, and other materials and maintains materials in proper order.
- Provides readers' advisory to the public.
- Enforces the rules of conduct and maintains order at the library.
- Plans and presents library programs and activities.
- Keep an inventory of supplies for the circulation area, youth rooms, and technology area.
- Applies labels, book covers, barcodes, and other processing tasks.
- Maintains various assigned records.
- Trains new library volunteers.
- Troubleshoots library's catalog software.
- Performs related duties as requested by the Library Director or Library Manager.
Knowledge Skills And Abilities
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Town officials, and the general public.
- Knowledge and interest in routine IT troubleshooting for public libraries and their software.
- Knowledge and interest in maker space technology such as 3D printing, Glow Forge laser cutter, GarageBand, gaming software, or Adobe Creative Suite.
Minimum Requirements And Special Requirements
Candidate must possess a High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of at least one year of higher education or current enrollment in college or university preferred. Computer literacy (e.g., familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Apple (IOS) operating systems, the internet, tablets, and software applications, including mobile applications). Experience in a library or other public service position requiring interaction with the public in occasionally stressful situations. Experience working with youth and teen patrons is preferred.
