Senior HPC Systems Administrator Description: This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of High Performance Computing (HPC) systems at SMU. The administrator will support research communities by maintaining hardware and software, providing technical support, and collaborating with faculty and staff to ensure reliable and scalable HPC infrastructure. Essential Functions: Design, deploy, and manage HPC services, including cluster environments and storage systems. Develop automation scripts using shell, Python, and C to streamline administrative tasks. Support and build research software, including open-source and commercial applications. Plan and communicate technical projects, maintaining documentation and system guides. Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues, optimize workloads, and participate in on-call support. Coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues, ensuring systems are up-to-date. Stay current with HPC trends and technologies. Qualifications: Bachelors degree required. At least six years of Linux system administration experience in a large computing environment. Experience with container technologies, orchestration platforms (preferably Kubernetes), scripting (shell, Python, C), and distributed parallel file systems. Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and perform off-hours maintenance.
