Role This role will be instrumental in analyzing departmental and branch-level profitability, tracking return on investment (ROI) for bank projects and initiatives, and assisting with enterprise-wide financial forecasting and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of banking operations, financial controls, and the evolving landscape of accounting guidance specific to financial institutions. Operational Support • Assist in managing the month-end and year-end close process, including account reconciliations and journal entries. • Identify opportunities to streamline and enhance accounting processes, tools, and reporting. Branch and Departmental Financial Reporting and Analysis • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly profit and loss statements by branch and department. • Monitor financial trends, variances, improvement opportunities, and performance KPIs across operational units. • Collaborate with branch management and department heads to provide financial insights and support strategic decisions. Project and Investment Performance Tracking • Develop financial processes to evaluate and track return on investment for key banking projects, including technology investments, banking initiatives, and service expansions. • Support investment decisions with data-driven analysis and risk assessment. • Provide post-implementation review to measure success against projections. Technical Accounting and Regulatory Compliance • Research and interpret new and existing accounting guidance (GAAP, CECL, regulatory capital standards) relevant to banking institutions. • Lead implementation of updated accounting standards, ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory expectations (e.g., OCC, FDIC, FRB). • Maintain internal documentation and assist in audit readiness, including regulatory exams and external audits. Forecasting and Strategic Planning • Support enterprise-wide budgeting and long-range planning processes. • Work with bank leadership to align financial forecasts with the bank’s strategic goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. Must comply with current applicable laws, regulations and bank policies and procedures. Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources. Knowledge & Skills Experience 5+ years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in a banking or financial services environment. Previous supervisory or managerial experience strongly preferred. Education • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred. Previous experience in a bank or credit union • Exposure to ALM modeling, stress testing, or liquidity planning preferred • Knowledge of bank federal and state regulatory requirements for financial reporting preferred Skills • Strong knowledge of banking-specific accounting standards and regulatory capital rules. • Experience in P&L analysis, ROI evaluation, and forecasting. • Proficiency with financial systems (e.g., Fiserv, Jack Henry, or similar core banking platforms) and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with BI/reporting tools a plus. • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally. • High degree of integrity, analytical rigor, and attention to detail. • Must have the ability to motivate or influence others is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy, influence and trust. Obtaining cooperation internally or externally from a senior level, as well as frequent material presentations are important keys to successfully fulfilling the responsibilities of this position. Physical Requirement Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and frequent lifting of up to 10 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Mental and/or Emotional Requirements Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters .
