JOB SUMMARY: The Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist is responsible for managing and investigating workers' compensation claims from initial report through resolution. This role requires strong investigative skills to gather and analyze information from various sources-including incident reports, medical records, witness statements, and employer input-to ensure accurate and timely claims processing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
- Investigate, negotiate, or work toward resolution of workers' compensation claims.
- Provide oversite and direction to the Third-Party Administrator on assigned files.
- Examines claim form and other records to determine insurance coverage.
- Telephone, interview, or correspond with employee and witnesses; consult police and hospital records.
- May testify in court when claims are contested. May attend litigation hearings.
- Recommends litigation by legal department when settlement cannot be negotiated.
- May consult with other professionals who can offer more expert evaluation of a claim.
- Partner with the greater department, safety, and other subsidiary management to ensure development and compliance of the company Safety, Education and Training Programs.
- Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright's culture of safety and employee ownership.
- Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.
- Position may require some outside travel.
- Must be available to respond to emergency situations on a 24/7 on-call basis, including after-hours and weekends, in the event of workplace accidents
- Bachelor's degree in finance, insurance, or similar field.
- Three+ years' experience in adjusting insurance claims in workers' compensation, general liability, automobile liability and/or property claims handling.
- Certification in a recognized insurance program such as Claims Law Associate, AIC, or willingness to complete the program.
- Possess a valid Driver's License and satisfy company driving policies.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Working experience in using claims software, preferred.
- Possess claims investigation skills.
- Intermediate/Advanced knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service focusing on rapport-building, listening, questioning and patience. Communicates effectively with all levels of employees, both technical and non-technical.
- Prior familiarity with OSHA, DOT, ANSI standards is a plus.
- Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors.
- Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish is highly preferred.
