All positions at the NM Public Education Department are based in Santa Fe, however some may operate through our Albuquerque office based on home address and space availability.

Why does the job exist?
Administers all aspects of capital outlay appropriations and public school capital improvement funds which includes budgeting, reviewing project requests, and processing reimbursement requests. This position must analyze and provide technical assistance to school districts, legislators, and the general public relating to public school capital outlay statutes, regulations, procedures and rules in New Mexico.
How does it get done?
Administration of all capital outlay projects is done through a web-based accounting system.

School districts, charter schools, legislators and the general public.
Ideal Candidate
Five (5) years of direct experience in budgeting, accounting, auditing, and reconciliations. Direct experience with state capital outlay projects and reimbursement requests is preferred.
Minimum Qualification
Associate degree in accounting, economics, finance, business administration, or related field and two (2) years of directly related experience in budgeting, accounting, auditing, statistical analysis or similar experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience. For use at the State Investment Council only: any budgeting, accounting, and/or auditing experience is acceptable.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer and telephone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some travel may be required.
