The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) is one of the executive branch agencies of the State of New Mexico. Our mission is to ensure health equity, we work with our partners to promote health and well-being and improve health outcomes for all people in New Mexico. The Diabetes Prevention and Control Program is a Public Health Program within the Population and Community Health Bureau (PCHB) of the New Mexico Department of Health.
Why does the job exist?
This position seeks to reduce the burden of diabetes in New Mexico among populations and communities who experience greater adverse outcomes from the disease.
How does it get done?
Key responsibilities of this position include: planning, implementation and evaluation of diabetes prevention and management activities, using a variety of evidence-based programs and initiatives and that advance health equity; coordinating health marketing, promotion and communication initiatives and serving as the primary contact for special events and media requests; developing and negotiating scopes of work for contracts that support efforts of the program; monitor and provide oversight of contracted activities to ensure deliverables are completed within the timeline specified; provide technical assistance and support to contractors and community partners to enhance implementation of programs and services.
Who are the customers?
All people of New Mexico at risk for developing, or who have diabetes. The job focuses efforts on tailored initiatives that reach the Program's identified priority populations who experience a disproportionate burden of diabetes.
Ideal Candidate
1. Experience in and knowledge of sound public health principles and approaches, in particular as they relate to diabetes prevention and management 2. Advanced writing skills for a variety of audiences, including report writing and creation of tailored educational materials. 3. Contract development and oversight experience 4. Community and partnership development and sustainability experience 5. Experience locating and using public health data to support public health initiatives
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or Education and one (1) year of experience in a health-related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal (VTD) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Ability to work full time in the office. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (bending, stooping and reaching) and meet numerous deadlines.
