The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is seeking an experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Director of Memorial Affairs. This senior-level position provides statewide strategic leadership and oversight of Minnesota’s State Veterans Cemeteries system and associated commemorative programs. The Director is responsible for system-wide activities, including capital planning, federal compliance, stakeholder relations, and workforce leadership, modelling compassion and honor for veterans and their families, and reverence for the dignified interment of eligible veterans and spouses. The Director serves as MDVA’s principal subject matter expert in memorial affairs and represents Minnesota at the national level, including partnerships with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration.
The Director reports to the Deputy Commissioner for Programs & Services and supervises the Deputy Director of Memorial Affairs. This position requires statewide travel and regular engagement with elected officials, federal partners, Veterans Service Organizations, and other stakeholders and local communities.

Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of managerial and/or supervisory experience directing staff and performance management Five (5) years of experience in public administration, Veterans affairs, memorial services cemetery operations, or a closely related field. Experience must also demonstrate the following:
Overseeing facilities or infrastructure related operations. Budget development and administration, such as operating budgets and/or capital projects. Presentation, group facilitation or public speaking skills.
And
Knowledge of State and Federal Veterans programs, interment regulations or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration (NCA) standards sufficient to ensure operational compliance and program integrity. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, elected officials, Veterans and the general public.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading capital improvement planning. Experience administering federal grant funding and compliance. Experience leading large-scale infrastructure enhancement and development projects. Experience interpreting and applying union contracts and/or plans. Experience in government affairs, including policy development, stakeholder engagement, and navigating legislative processes.
