Job Title: Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shifts: Night – 3x12-hour shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend (Saturday & Sunday)
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience
- Current RN license (Valid Ohio license or Compact License)
- Accepted: First-time travelers
- COVID-19 & Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- Ability to float within hospital and affiliate facilities
- Fingerprinting required for Ohio facilities – results must be completed before the start date
- Must provide 2 references from within the last 24 months
- Local candidates not accepted (50+ mile radius rule)
Certifications Required:
- ACLS
- NRP
- AWHONN Intermediate
- (AWHONN Beginner, NCC or EFM Certification preferred)
Skills & Experience Required:
Labor and Delivery Management:
- Amnioinfusion
- High-risk delivery assistance
- Vaginal delivery assistance
- C-section circulation, recovery & scrubbing
- Forceps/vacuum delivery support
- Hemorrhage/shock management
- Sterile vaginal exams
Fetal Monitoring:
- External and internal fetal monitoring
- IUPC placement & calibration
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Spiral electrode placement*
Antepartum Care & Procedures:
- Sterile speculum exams (effacement, dilation, etc.)
- NST & OCT
- Reflex, edema assessment, clonus checks
- Triage and EFM use
Postpartum Care & Procedures:
- Vaginal & C-section recovery
- Fundus/lochia/perineum care
- Wound assessment & care
- Foley catheter insertion
- Episiotomy/incision care
- Breastfeeding/lactation support*
Neonatal Care in Delivery Room:
- APGAR scoring
- Baby catcher responsibilities
- Cord sample collection
- Neonatal resuscitation
- Thermoregulation (Radiant warmers)
- Newborn hypoglycemia management
Newborn Care:
- Infant identification
- Newborn assessment
Medication Administration:
- Antihypertensives
- Insulin drips
- Magnesium sulfate therapy
- Pitocin (oxytocin)
- PCA, opioids, nitrous oxide, epidural/general anesthesia
IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
- Blood/blood product administration
- Peripheral IV initiation/maintenance
- Infusion pump/drip monitoring
Surgical Procedures:
- Cervical cerclage
- Dilation and curettage (D&C)
- Tubal ligation
Patient Conditions Treated:
- Preterm labor, PROM
- Pre-eclampsia/eclampsia
- HELLP syndrome
- Placenta previa/abruption
- Substance abuse, HIV, cardiac disease
- Uterine rupture, multiple gestation
- Seizure disorder, RH incompatibilities
Professional Skills:
- Isolation precautions/PPE use
- Epic Stork & PeriGen documentation (preferred)
- Pyxis medication system
- SBAR communication
- Use of Rapid Response Team
