Senior Mechanical Power Engineer
– HDR
Overview HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Power Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. The role focuses on natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects, and may involve serving as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer. HDR’s power generation market is growing, and opportunities exist in multiple preferred locations across the United States.
Preferred locations Locations include: Austin, Ann Arbor, Boise, Bismarck, Billings, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Irvine, Fort Worth, Houston, Honolulu, Kansas City, Madison, Minneapolis, Missoula, Omaha, Phoenix, Portland (OR and ME), Richmond, Raleigh, Sacramento/Folsom, San Diego, Seattle, Spokane, St. Louis, Syracuse.
Responsibilities
Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
Monitor and communicate project status; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both technical and contractual levels.
Develop deliverables including construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
Prepare designs and specifications for power generation systems including simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects.
Lead or contribute as lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager as appropriate for project size, and collaborate with engineers and designers from multiple disciplines.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
A minimum of 10 years of experience in power market project execution
Professional Engineers (PE) or P.Eng license
Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
Proficient with Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
Commitment to being an active participant in HDR’s employee-owned culture
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design
Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise
Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation
Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm desired
Experience in fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects
Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
Excellent communication and analytical skills
Mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget
Travel expected to be less than 10%
