HDR's national Power Generation team is growing to meet strong capacity demand signals. We are seeking a qualified

Senior Mechanical Power Engineer

to help our clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer.

Preferred locations include: Austin, Ann Arbor, Boise, Bismarck, Billings, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Irvine, Fort Worth, Houston, Honolulu, Kansas City, Madison, Minneapolis, Missoula, Omaha, Phoenix, Portland (OR & ME), Richmond, Raleigh, Sacramento/Folsom, San Diego, Seattle, Spokane, St. Louis, Syracuse.

Responsibilities

Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.

Monitor and communicate project status; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both technical and contractual levels.

Develop deliverables such as construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.

Define project roles and lead assignments; typical roles include lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager, possibly including project manager; work in a collaborative environment with engineers and designers from other disciplines.

Travel: less than 10% to meet with clients and vendors and to visit project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.

Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.

Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise.

Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.

Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm is desired.

Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.

Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.

Excellent communication and analytical skills.

Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.

Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.

Travel: less than 10% for client meetings, vendor engagements, and site visits.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

A minimum of 10 years of experience.

Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.

Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.

Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).

Compensation and Benefits The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. The targeted salary range for this position (based on experience and location) is $108,661 - $204,250.
