HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. The role supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. Primary duties typically involve leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both technical and contractual levels.

to help our clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer.

Responsibilities

Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.

Monitor and communicate project status; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both technical and contractual levels.

Develop deliverables such as construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.

Design and specify power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects (preferred).

Project roles will vary; typically include lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager and may include project manager.

Collaborate with engineers and designers from several other disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.

Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.

Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise.

Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.

Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm desired.

Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.

Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.

Excellent communication and analytical skills.

Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.

Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.

Travel less than 10% for client and vendor meetings and project site visits.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Minimum of 10 years of experience

Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license

Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector

Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) The targeted salary range for this position (based on experience and location) is $108,661 - $204,250.
