Overview
Albertsons Companies is seeking an experienced grocery Store Director to lead within our specialty grocery district. This district includes our premier East Coast specialty banners, Kings and Balducci's, known for their exceptional quality and customer service. Position: Store Director – King’s/Balducci’s District NY/CT/NJ Responsibilities
Overall management responsibility for the operation of a retail grocery store, including store performance, cash control, inventory and security, customer service, and staff management. Track, analyze, and act to improve store performance by forecasting weekly/daily sales goals and meeting or exceeding established targets. Communicate sales goals, department performance, and opportunities with staff to ensure positive results. Forecast, schedule, and monitor labor to align with sales, productivity guidelines, and wage budgets; develop action plans to address cost control issues. Develop and direct strategies to improve product placement and appearance; manage display accuracy and promotions; ensure in-stock conditions. Ensure proper cash handling, accounting, security, maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and sanitation. Plan and coordinate work activities, manage time and resources to meet objectives. Ensure compliance with legal requirements and company policies, including money handling, safety, sanitation, recalls, wage payments, and related laws. Focus on customer satisfaction; coach staff on delivering superior service and handling complaints effectively. Hire, train, develop, and manage store employees; participate in hiring decisions and disciplinary actions. Maintain professional relationships with union officials and ensure compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements. Build positive working relationships with direct reports, peers, supervisors, suppliers, and customers; manage difficult situations appropriately. Ensure proper staffing to meet labor and sales goals and customer needs; participate in proactive hiring. Make final hiring decisions, conduct interviews, and ensure new hires receive necessary training; evaluate probationary period eligibility. Provide constructive feedback, set performance expectations, and identify development opportunities for staff. Qualifications
Education : High School Diploma (or equivalent) required; college degree preferred. Experience : A minimum of 3 to 5 years as a Store Manager responsible for a multi-department operation within retail, hospitality, or service; OR 5+ years of managerial experience in an Assistant Manager role with P&L ownership, inventory ordering, and schedule writing responsibilities. Retail grocery experience required; food safety certification preferred. Experience working with unions preferred. Skills : Strong planning, organizational, math, and analytical skills. Customer service and supervisory skills; understanding of overall retail operations. Strong leadership and written/spoken communication skills. Computer literacy; ability to make quality decisions under time constraints. Ability to maintain positive relationships with others; P&L ownership; schedule writing; perishable inventory management. Additional Details
Pay transparency : The salary range is $85k to $120k annually. Starting salary varies by location, experience, and qualifications, with potential flexibility for exceptional candidates. Eligible for a quarterly bonus based on store performance. Total compensation may include 12 days PTO, 40 hours of sick time, 6 holidays, 401k match up to 7%, pet insurance, EPA benefits, and more. Travel : Travel to stores within the district for trainings and meetings. Physical Environment : Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods; ability to lift up to ~55 lbs; occasional desk/computer work; may require stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching; fast-paced environment with some holiday/evening/weekend work.
