General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our Customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all Customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, efficiently follows all company best practice standards, maintains a clean work area at all times, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Retail Associate is expected to engage in these tasks as assigned during all working hours and to perform a range of functions in all areas of the Store as business needs require. The Associate may be asked to perform additional tasks in specific situations to help achieve customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment. Keeps egress clear. Reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treats all Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; remains friendly and professional at all times.
  • Assists Customers in any way necessary — is register-trained, helps with merchandise, and answers questions politely and knowledgeably. Greets Customers with eye contact, a smile, and a courteous greeting; says “thank you” at every register transaction.
  • Provides prompt and efficient responses to Customer inquiries and service calls. Escalates issues to Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks to maintain store and team areas, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high-touch areas.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the Company’s dress code.
  • Performs daily sizing and recovery to ensure a neat, clean, and organized store that is well-maintained and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandises items per guidelines, and maintains brand name familiarity within departments to assist Customers.
  • Understands Loss Prevention programs and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguards confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
  • Follows MOS policies, including identification and processing of MOS merchandise and notifying Store Leadership for disposals.
  • Adheres to policies concerning cash, checks, charge cards, refunds, and related transactions; maintains accuracy when handling tender.
  • Demonstrates urgency to perform duties efficiently and minimize steps in workflow.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/Ada

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • Some assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
  • For Stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
