Overview

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our Customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all Customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, and follows company best practices to maintain a clean work area and proper merchandise presentation. Tasks are performed as assigned during all working hours, across all store areas as needed to meet business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety as the number one priority and practice safe behaviors on the sales floor.
  • Maintain a safe, clutter-free sales floor with clear egress to emergency exits; report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Greet Customers and treat them and fellow Associates with respect and courtesy; participate in company recognition programs.
  • Assist Customers — register-trained, provide product information, answer questions, and handle transactions politely and knowledgeably.
  • Provide prompt, courteous responses to Customer inquiries and escalate issues to Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, disinfecting high-touch areas) and restock as needed to maintain store standards.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the dress code.
  • Execute daily merchandising and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and well-organized.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor following company guidelines and present items per monthly guidelines.
  • Understand Loss Prevention concepts and protection standards relevant to the store.
  • Demonstrate integrity and safeguard confidential information, cash and merchandise.
  • Follow MOS (Mark-Out-of-Stock) policies and proper disposal processes when needed.
  • Follow cash, check, charge card, refund procedures; maintain accuracy in handling tenders.
  • Maintain a sense of urgency to maximize productivity while following Store best practices.

Qualifications and Special Skills

  • Effective communication with Customers, Associates, and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
  • Ability to use Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.

Physical Requirements / ADA

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach, and stoop; lift up to 25 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
  • Stockroom shifts may require pushing/pulling and lifting more than 20 pounds.
