Overview

Ross Stores is a leading off-price retail chain with over 2,200 stores. The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience, maintaining a clean store, and presenting merchandise according to company standards. The role requires engaging with customers and teammates, following store practices, and supporting store goals as business needs require.

Essential Functions

  • Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment. Keeps clear egress to emergency exits and reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treats all Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; remains friendly and professional. Uses company recognition programs to acknowledge fellow Associates.
  • Assists Customers as needed — is register-trained, helps with merchandise, and answers questions politely and knowledgeably. Greets Customers with eye contact, a smile, and a greeting; thanks Customers at each register transaction.
  • Provides prompt responses to Customer inquiries and Service calls. Handles issues courteously and escalates to Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters, restrooms) and replenishes supplies to maintain merchandise, customer and Team areas.
  • Maintains professional appearance and adheres to the Company's dress code.
  • Performs daily assigned sizing and recovery to ensure a neat, clean, and organized store that is well-maintained and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandises items per guidelines, and maintains brand-name familiarity within departments to assist Customers.
  • Understands Loss Prevention Awareness, MOS policies, and merchandise protection standards.
  • Demonstrates integrity and safeguards confidential information and merchandise.
  • Follows cash handling, refunds, and offline procedures with accuracy and awareness.
  • Demonstrates urgency to perform duties efficiently while following Store best practices.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the Store up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • Certain assignments may require other qualifications and skills.
  • For Stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
