Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM)

to join our Labor & Delivery unit in San Jose, CA. This is a night-shift role offering the opportunity to lead a high-acuity obstetrics team. The ANM plays a critical role in supporting clinical operations, supervising nursing staff, maintaining compliance, and ensuring safe, high-quality care delivery 24/7. The ANM reports to the Department Manager and directly supervises line staff. This position is ideal for an experienced RN with strong clinical skills in L&D and leadership experience (with or without direct reports), eager to advance their impact in maternal-child health. Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily clinical operations and care delivery in L&D Provide direct supervision and support to RNs and clinical staff Monitor and manage patient safety, emergency preparedness, and adherence to clinical standards Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to ensure best outcomes Lead quality improvement initiatives and promote evidence-based practices Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), Nursing Practice Act, and other regulatory agencies Participate in budget monitoring, staffing decisions, and resource allocation Maintain clinical competencies and provide education, mentorship, and training Conduct staff evaluations, implement development plans, and address performance issues Support patients, families, and staff during critical incidents and escalate as needed Minimum Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN), California - Required BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required Associate\'s Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field 2+ years of experience in L&D patient care delivery in an acute care setting 1+ year of experience in a leadership capacity (e.g., Charge Nurse, Preceptor, Educator) Preferred Qualifications

BSN or higher degree Experience in a Magnet or unionized facility Familiarity with quality/safety regulations, compliance, and strategic planning Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards and Nursing Practice Act Training in evidence-based medicine, clinical documentation, and project management Required Skills & Competencies

Leadership & team management Labor & Delivery clinical expertise Strong decision-making and triage capability Clinical documentation and EMR use Communication and conflict resolution Understanding of regulatory frameworks (TJC, OSHA, Nursing Practice Act) Emergency response protocols and maternal-child care standards
